Katherine, it would depend on how big the cyst is, what type of cyst it looks like, how sure we are about how long it has been there, factors specific to your case (age, IVF indication, past response to medications, expected number of eggs), logistic factors such as your availability to do treatment next month or the month after and other factors as well. On the surface, the plan sounds reasonable and it's almost certain that your RE will wait for a period before starting the stimulation. Best of luck!

Hi,

I went last week to start my fertility treatment (egg harvesting) and the doctor said that I have a follicle cyst. I went back this morning and he said it's still there. He said to stay on the pill and skip my period and we'll wait and see if it goes away. Is this the best thing to do, skip my period? He also mentioned he can release the fluid in the sack if I'd like. What is your advice?

Thanks!

I went in for my ultrasound today and my lining was at 9.1 I also had 2 follicles--one at 27 and one at 35. At my CD3 ultrasound I have 10 less than 10 on each side. My RE said it looked good and we did the IUI. My question is are these even viable? or is this cycle a bust?

Great post. Thanks. Just researching whether my post-oopherectamy sonogram was in fact normal. Somehow in 36 years no one's ever mentioned follicles or how big they should be.

hi Dr,
thanks for all ur useful infos... i just have a quick question.. on CD 8 i went for an U/S and we saw "which i guess" a follicle sized 19.. previous cycle i had 2 follicles sized 12,5 and 13 which made me took injections to make them bigger.. and FYI my cycle is a regular 26 days cycle and ususally i ovulate within day 12-14.. is the 19 mm is a leftover cyst or i started to ovulate early this cycle.. me and DH are TTC for 8 moths now and DH has low sperm count ( around 16 m/mml

Hi,
I just had a BFN on an IUI cycle. I went in for CD3 scan, big follicle still left. They offered me BCP. I have very concerned, I am 41 and do not want to loose a month.
Is it imperative to take the BCP?
Can I get preg naturally with that follicle ?

They are leaving it up to me, since there are no certainties.

Doctor, a quick PS. My baseline hormone levels were "perfect" and there were no enlarged follicles on my left ovary. Just the 10mm guy hanging out on my left side.

Hi Dr. I really enjoyed this post. I was on Clomid cycle #1 50mg last cycle and only registered 3.5 progesterone on CD21. My RE decided to bump up dosage to 100mg and begin monitoring cycle #2. On CD2, one 10mm "cyst" was found on my left ovary. My RE was away and so the on-call doc told the nurse it was "borderline" but that I should sit this cycle out. Everywhere I search online, it seems 10mm is not big enough to be too concerned about at this stage. Is this doctor concerned the Clomid will, in effect, promote the growth ONLY of this 10mm follicle (which has no egg inside), instead of growing viable little guys? Couldn't my right ovary potentially produce viable eggs? Of course I don't want to put medicine in my body and hope in my heart unnecessarily and I will follow the doctor's orders, but I wondered if you think this is an over-cautious approach?
