Do-It-Yourself Sperm Donation. Don’t try this at home.
There is a severe shortage of sperm in the United Kingdom due mostly to government over-regulation which prohibits donors from getting financial compensation for their donation services AND removes the protection of donor anonymity. This tempts desperate couples into ill-advised risky behavior such as meeting strangers from the internet and making the exchange in hotel rooms. Or in many cases, couples come here to the US for their treatment, if they can afford it. Because, in contrast, here in the United States, there is an abundant selection of safe, anonymous donor sperm from intelligent, healthy donors of all ethnicities who have been screened for genetic disease and infectious diseases. This process is overseen by well-regulated state-of-the-art sperm banking facilities. The sperm is frozen and quarantined. Only after the original sperm donor is retested several months later and found to be still negative for HIV and other infectious diseases is the sperm finally released for safe usage.
Our government may have its shortcomings, but at least they haven’t made the mistakes that the Brits’ rulers have made. Not yet, anyway.
