The best choice of options depends a lot on your age, duration of infertility and other factors. You can keep working with your OB unless you feel it's time to see an RE.

Hi Dr. Lee,
I was diagnosed with PCOS a year ago and was put on metformin. My cycles regulated and I have had regular 32 day cycles since. We've been using a fertility monitor for 4 months now (with peak reading every month) but haven't conceived. DH S/A is normal. Am I to conclude I am ovulating normally? Doc has suggested starting Femara. Is this the right direction to take or should we be looking into tubal issues with hsg ? Would very much appreciate your opinion.

Thanks.

I know I have PCOS (that would make me a non-ovulator right??) and I am worried about having child even though I am years away from having one. Is there anything I can do now to prepare my body? I would like to visit a RE but I'm not sure what they can do for me now since I am not ready for children. This is an issue I think about everyday.

By definition, ovulation simply means release of an egg. The egg does not necessarily have to be of a good enough quality to initiate a pregnancy. In fact, only a minority of ovulated eggs are good enough to result in pregnancy.

Hi Dr. Lee,

I know a woman can have her period and not ovulate, but can she ovulate and not release a mature egg for that month?
Or is it, once you've ovulated, you've release a mature egg?

Thanks for your time,
Joey
